Black Friday 2026: 15 promotion ideas that actually sell on Instagram (and how to build them with AI)

15 promotion ideas for shops, services and courses, with the dates for each country, a discount calculator and how to build them with Claude or ChatGPT.

Published on October 31, 2026 14 min read
A Mexican clothing shop owner in her thirties, with wavy hair and a cream linen shirt, laughs as she helps a young short-haired customer try on a denim jacket in front of a mirror, in her small shop with sage green walls.

On Black Friday and Cyber Monday everyone cuts prices, and that's exactly the problem: if your only idea is a bigger discount than the shop down the street, you lose. A small business doesn't win on price. It wins with a deal people get in a second, that still leaves a profit and that reaches the right people before the day.

Here are 15 proven ideas by type of business (shops, appointment-based services, coaches and courses), the 2026 dates for the US, Canada and the UK, a calculator to see how much you can discount without losing money and a day-by-day plan. At the end, how Claude or ChatGPT can build the whole campaign for you in an afternoon. It pays to start now: in Meta and Ipsos's 18-country study, 73% of people start shopping for gifts before November (Meta, 2026).

The 2026 dates in each country

Dates as published by the press and retail calendars in each country: United States, where Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26 (OPM), Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Brazil. Black Friday has no official organizer: it's the Friday after US Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday is the Monday after that.

Pick your country: your days on the calendar, what you ask Claude or ChatGPT and what you get back. With SocialMaker connected, it also gets scheduled.

Before you choose: do the math almost nobody does

A 30% discount doesn't cut your profit by 30%: it cuts it by much more. If a $40 product costs you $16, today you make $24 per sale. At 30% off you sell it for $28 and make $12: you have to sell twice as many to make what you make today. Plug in your numbers and see how much it makes sense to discount:

How much can I discount without losing money?

Your numbers

Today you make$24per sale

With the discount you make$12per sale

To make the same profit, you need to sell 2 times what you sell today.

To keep at least half of what you make today, don't go over 30%.

Everything is calculated in your browser. “What each sale costs you” is everything you pay to deliver it: product, materials, packaging and shipping if you cover it.

That's why many of the ideas below aren't discounts at all: a free gift, a bundle or a prepaid package gives your customer more and costs you less.

15 promotion ideas by type of business

Don't do all 15. Pick one or two that fit your business and do them well: one clear deal sells more than five confusing ones.

If you sell products

Clothing, accessories, beauty, home decor, coffee, gift shops: anything you pack and ship.

  1. A bundle or kit instead of marking everything down

It raises how much each person spends and leaves the price of your best seller alone. Example: “Skincare kit: cleanser, serum and face mist, $45 instead of $58 separately.” Post it: a carousel showing the kit put together and “comment KIT and I'll send you the link.”

  2. A free gift with purchase

The gift counts at what it costs you, not at what you charge, and it feels more generous than 10% off. Example: “Spend $30 or more and get a free travel candle” (it costs you $3 and sells for $12 in your shop). Post it: a reel unboxing the package with the gift inside.

  3. Free shipping over a set amount

People add one more thing to reach the minimum. Set it a little above what your customers usually spend. Example: if your average order is $25, “free shipping on orders over $35.” Post it: in the first line of the caption and in a story Highlight for as long as it runs.

  4. A flash sale on stories only

Three hours, only for the people watching: it's real urgency and it rewards your followers. Example: “Tonight from 8 to 11 p.m., buy one, get one free on basics.” Post it: three stories with Instagram's countdown sticker, the last one 30 minutes before it closes.

  5. Christmas pre-orders with guaranteed delivery

Black Friday falls a month before Christmas, and plenty of people are already shopping for gifts. Example: “Reserve today with half down and it'll arrive before December 20.” Post it: a “gifts under $30” carousel, with the order deadline front and center.

A Colombian coffee roaster in his late twenties, with short curly hair, a beard and a canvas apron, smiles as he hands a kraft paper bag to a red-haired customer who is smelling the beans from a jar, at the wooden counter of his small roastery in Medellín.
A bag of whole beans bundled with a mug sells more, and earns you more, than 30% off everything.

If you sell appointment-based services

Skin care and facials, hair, nails, brows and lashes, color analysis, massage: what you sell is your time, so a discount costs you dearly. Play with the dates and with who pays instead.

  1. A prepaid package for January through March

You get paid today and fill the slowest months of the year. Example: “3 facials for the price of 2.5, to use by March 31.” Post it: a before and after of a client (with her permission) and “comment PACKAGE.”

  2. Your service as a gift

In December, the person paying often isn't the one using it: your customer might be a partner, a daughter or a friend. In the US, gift cards are the most-requested gift, wanted by 50% of people (NRF, 2025). Example: “Hair Day gift card: cut and treatment, ready to send by text or email.” Post it: a reel of you wrapping the card.

  3. Bring a friend

Your best client brings in someone just like her, and it costs you less than an ad. Example: “Book together and you each get a free brow shaping.” Post it: a story with the question sticker: “who would you bring?”

  4. Holiday booking with a deposit

December fills up fast, and the appointments without a deposit are the ones that fall through. Example: “Book your holiday appointment with a $20 deposit that comes off your total.” Post it: a carousel with your open December slots and the link to your booking page in your bio. More ideas for not getting stood up in how to reduce no-shows.

A Peruvian brow and lash specialist in her late twenties, with straight black hair pulled back and a pink uniform, laughs as she holds up a mirror for her client with wavy blonde hair, who smiles as she touches her freshly shaped brows, in a bright white studio in Lima.
For services, a prepaid package fills January and a gift card brings in new clients.

If you're a coach or sell courses

Programs, mentoring, classes, recorded courses and templates: what you sell never runs out, so the urgency has to be real.

  1. Launch spots that are truly limited

A few spots at a price that won't come back. Example: “10 spots in the January program at the launch price.” Post it: count down in your stories how many are left, and keep the number honest.

  2. A bonus instead of a discount

You protect your price and give more. Example: “Join this week and get a free 1:1 session.” Post it: a reel walking through what happens in that bonus session.

  3. Payment plans

The full price is scary; the installment isn't. Example: “3 payments of $49 instead of $147 up front.” Post it: in the first line of the caption, before the full price.

Ideas that work for any business

  1. A VIP list with a 24-hour head start

You gather the interested people before the day, so when the deal opens you already have people to tell. Example: “Comment VIP and I'll let you know a day before anyone else.” Post it: a week before, with the reply going out on its own by DM (we show you how below).

  2. A gift card with bonus credit

You get paid today and the person comes back in January, when sales slow down. Example: “Buy a $50 gift card and get $60 to spend.” Post it: a carousel about “the gift you can't get wrong.”

  3. Cyber Monday for digital products

On the Monday after Black Friday, people keep shopping online: it's the day for anything delivered instantly. Example: “Monday the 30th only: the recorded course at 40% off, with instant access.” Post it: on Sunday night, with the exact time it ends.

Your plan, day by day

  • Two weeks before: pick one or two ideas, run the numbers with the calculator and open your VIP list.
  • One week before: get the photos, the carousel and the stories ready, schedule them and set up the auto-reply (turned off until the day).
  • Three days before: tell your list first and start the countdown in your stories.
  • On the day: post early, turn on the auto-reply, add stories every few hours and personally answer anything that isn't a repeat question.
  • On the last day: remind people what time it ends, without inventing urgency that isn't there.
  • After: say thanks, message the people who asked but didn't buy, and use your best sellers for your Christmas plan on Instagram.

What loses the most sales: unanswered messages

On promo day, people will message you “price?”, “is the deal still on?” and “do you ship?” dozens of times, and anyone who doesn't hear back quickly buys from someone else. That's what SocialMaker's auto-replies are for: someone comments the word from your post and gets your catalog, your booking page or your payment link by DM, with a button, day and night.

The word doesn't have to stand alone: if someone writes “I want the deal pls,” it catches that too. And you give it a date so it turns itself off when the promo ends, so the morning after, it isn't promising the deal to anyone. The free plan gives you one active automation (up to 100 people a month); to run the VIP list and the deal at the same time, you'll need Starter or above.

A Chilean ceramist in her thirties, with bangs, freckles and a mustard cardigan, wraps a mug in kraft paper while chatting with a customer with curly brown hair and a sage green sweater, who is holding another mug and laughing, in her light blue workshop and shop in Valparaíso.
While you help the people who came into the shop, the promo replies go out on their own.

Build the campaign with Claude or ChatGPT

You don't have to write it all yourself. Either one can put your campaign together in an afternoon if you give it your details. First, tell it about your business, then ask for each piece:

  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTContext
I run [your business] in [your city and country]. I sell [your products or services] to [your ideal customer]. Here are my prices and what each one costs me: [paste your list]. I'm running a [Black Friday, Cyber Monday] promo from [date] to [date]. Write in plain, everyday English, with short sentences.
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTThe deal
Using my prices and costs, suggest 3 promotions that work for my type of business (bundle, free gift with purchase, prepaid package, VIP list) and tell me how much I make on each one.
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTThe caption
Write the caption for the main post: the deal in the first line, how long it lasts and “comment DEAL and I'll send you the catalog.”
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTThe stories
Give me the text for 5 countdown stories, one a day, each with a different reason to keep watching.
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTThe replies
Write the replies to “is the promo still on?” and “do you ship?” using my details: [areas, delivery times and costs]. Short, with the link to buy.
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTThe follow-up
Write a message for people who asked but didn't buy: no pressure, with a reason to come back before Christmas.

And if you connect Claude or ChatGPT to SocialMaker, they don't just write it: they get it done in your account. With the connector, ask like this:

  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTAutomation
When someone comments DEAL on my Black Friday post, reply publicly and send them my catalog by DM with a button. Have it turn itself off on Monday the 30th at 11:59 p.m. New York time.
  • Prompt for Claude or ChatGPTCarousel
Design my promo carousel with the photos of my products in my library and schedule it for Friday the 27th at 8 a.m. New York time.

Before turning on an automation, it asks you. The step-by-step guides are in how to connect Claude to Instagram and how to connect ChatGPT to Instagram. The connector comes with the Pro and Max plans, which you can try free for 30 days.

The mistakes that cost you sales

  • Raising the price beforehand to show a bigger discount: it's against the rules in the US and Canada, among other places, and shoppers notice. The rules for each country are in our guide to Black Friday on Instagram.
  • Five promotions at once: they confuse people. One or two, clearly explained.
  • Fake urgency: if you say “last few left” or “today only,” make sure it's true. Repeat it the following week and nobody will believe you next time.
  • Not saying when it ends: give the day and the time. It heads off complaints and nudges people to decide.
  • Leaving messages for later: the person who asks on Friday night buys on Friday night.
What discount should I offer?

One that still leaves you a profit. Use the calculator above: with your numbers, it tells you how low you can go without losing money. If the discount leaves you with almost no margin, try a free gift, a bundle or a prepaid package instead.

I sell services. Should I do Black Friday?

Yes, but without discounting your time: a prepaid package for January, your service as a gift or holiday booking with a deposit work better than a discount.

When should I start posting?

About two weeks before, with your VIP list. For Black Friday (November 27) and Cyber Monday (November 30), that means starting around mid-November. If you have a local shop, save a story for Small Business Saturday (November 28).

What if my country has its own shopping days?

Use Black Friday or your country's own shopping event. The ideas work just the same: change the name and the dates. In Canada and the UK, Black Friday and Cyber Monday fall on the same days as in the US.

Do I need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan?

To write the campaign, no: the prompts work on the free plans of both. To have them do it in your account, you need to connect them, and that depends on your Claude or ChatGPT plan. On SocialMaker, the connector comes with Pro and Max.

Can I reply to comments automatically for free?

Yes: SocialMaker's free plan gives you one active automation on Instagram or Facebook. You set it up in the Studio in a few minutes and give it a date so it turns itself off.

Find your date in the table, run the numbers, pick one or two ideas and build your plan. A clear deal, posted on time and with every message answered, sells more than the biggest discount.
