How to Sell More on Instagram at Christmas: 2026 Guide (Through the New Year)
The dates that matter in December, what to offer for your business, how to answer “will it arrive by the 24th?” automatically and what to set up today.

It's December 21, 10 p.m. You have 14 unread messages: “will it still arrive by the 24th?”, “do you do gift cards?”, “how much is the set of three?”. You answer while packing the day's orders and, by the time you get to the last one, that person has already bought from someone else.
And December plays out on Instagram more than it seems. In a study Meta commissioned from Ipsos across 18 countries, including the US, Mexico, Brazil and France, 37% of people said they use social media to discover gifts (Meta, 2026), and 73% start shopping before November (Meta, 2026). In the US, social media drove 4.6% of online holiday sales in 2025, up from 3.3% the year before (Adobe, 2026).
This guide is so December doesn't run you over: the dates that matter this season, what to offer for your kind of business, how to answer those questions automatically and what to set up now, while there's still time.
The dates that matter this season

And you, in December, with your family.
- November 27, Black Friday: a lot of Christmas shopping starts that weekend. If you want to get ready for it, read the guide to Black Friday on Instagram.
- December 17 to 19, the shipping cutoffs: for 2026, USPS recommends shipping by December 17 with Ground Advantage, December 18 with Priority Mail and December 19 with Priority Mail Express within the contiguous US (USPS). Every carrier publishes its own, so check yours.
- December 19, Super Saturday: the last Saturday before Christmas is one of the busiest shopping days of the year; in 2025 the NRF expected a record 159 million shoppers on that day (NRF).
- December 24 and 25: the last minute. People who missed the shipping cutoff look for something they can pick up, get by message or give as a gift card.
- December 26 to January 1: the shopping doesn't stop. Last season, 70% of shoppers planned to buy something in the week after Christmas (NRF), when many of them spend their gift cards.
What to offer in December for your kind of business
Christmas isn't just for stores. Almost any business has something people can give, or something they need to sort out before the holidays:
- Stores and products: a gift guide sorted by price (“under $30”, “for him”, “for her”) sells more than a catalog with 80 items. People shopping for a gift want help choosing.
- Appointment-based services (salons, nails, barbers, makeup, photography): the calendar fills up with end-of-year parties. Open it early and offer your service as a gift card: in the US, gift cards are the most-requested gift, wanted by 50% of people (NRF, 2025).
- Food: Christmas and New Year's dinners, desserts and gift baskets, with a clear order deadline.
- Classes, courses and coaching: a month of classes or a session as a gift, and in January, New Year's resolutions.
- Creators and affiliates: your own gift guide with the products you recommend, each one with its link.
What do you sell in December?

Your plan, week by week
From now until November 27: build your gift guide
Pick 6 to 12 products or services and sort them by price. Add them to your SocialMaker digital catalog, with a photo, a price and the button to order on WhatsApp, and put it at the top of your link in bio.
The last week of November: turn on the word
Post your guide as a reel or a carousel that ends with “comment GIFT”. With SocialMaker's automatic replies, everyone who comments gets, within a minute, a reply to their comment and a private message with the button to see your gifts, even at 3 a.m.
December 1 to 15: bookings and orders
If you offer services, open your December calendar on your booking page and block the days you don't work. If you sell food, announce the last day you take orders for the 24th and the 31st.
December 16 to 24: the last minute
Change the message in your automations: “To arrive by the 24th, the last shipping day was…; you can still pick up in store or give a gift card.” Latecomers buy too if you give them an option.
December 26 to January 6: the new year and resolutions
Don't switch everything off on the 25th. Gift cards get spent after Christmas, and in the first week of January a lot of people look for classes, courses and plans to start the year.
Answer “will it arrive by the 24th?” without living on your phone
In December, the questions repeat: the price, whether it'll arrive on time, whether there's a gift card, which days are left on the calendar. Write the answer once and let it go out on its own. You can copy and adapt these messages:
- Gift guide (GIFT)
Hi! Here's our gift guide, sorted by price. Orders with shipping are accepted until {date}; after that, you can still pick up in store until the 24th.
- Shipping cutoff
Thanks for reaching out! To arrive by the 24th, the last day to order with shipping is {date}. If it's later, we can offer you a gift card or in-store pickup.
- Holiday bookings (BOOK)
Hi! Our December calendar is open. Pick your day and time here; Saturdays fill up first.
- Gift card
Running late? Give a gift card for {service}: we'll send it to you by message in minutes and the person picks their day.
On the Pro or Max plan? You can ask Claude for all of this prep, one sentence per task: the catalog, the automation, the link in bio and the posts. Connected to your SocialMaker account, it gets the work done in your account and asks you before turning anything on or publishing. Copy one of these prompts and paste it into the Claude chat:
Prompt for ClaudeYour gift catalog
Build a gift catalog with these products, sorted from lowest to highest price, with the button to order on WhatsApp: (paste your list with name and price here).Prompt for ClaudeThe word GIFT
Create an automation for my gift guide post: when people comment GIFT, reply to them publicly and send them the link to my catalog by message.Prompt for ClaudeYour link in bio
Add a “Gifts by price” button at the very top of my link in bio that goes to my catalog, and below it a text that says “Orders with shipping until December 15”.Prompt for ClaudeSchedule the season
Design a 5-slide carousel with my gift guide by price and schedule it for Thursday, November 26 at 7 p.m. New York time.
Your link in bio in Christmas mode
Almost everyone who finds you in December visits your profile before messaging you. Make your link in bio answer what you'll get asked the most:
- Your gift guide, at the very top, with a clear button: “Gifts by price”.
- Your shipping cutoff, written plainly: “Orders with shipping until December 15”.
- Your holiday hours: which days you're closed and until what time you're open on the 24th and the 31st.
- Your booking calendar, if you offer services, so people can book without messaging you.
- Your WhatsApp, for people who'd rather ask.

Schedule December and rest over the holidays
If you have your December posts ready by the end of November, on the 24th you'll be with your family instead of editing a reel. With SocialMaker's scheduler you prepare carousels, photos, videos and Stories for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, and they go out on their own at the time you choose. If you're not sure when to post, see how to find your best times.
Mistakes that cost sales in December
- Promising it'll arrive by the 24th without checking your carrier's cutoff. A gift that arrives on the 27th is a customer who doesn't come back.
- Hiding the price (“DM for price”). In December people compare fast and buy from whoever answers first.
- Opening your December calendar on the 15th, when everyone has already booked with someone else.
- Forgetting the latecomers: a gift card, a digital product or in-store pickup saves the sale on the 23rd and the 24th.
- Disappearing on the 26th: gift cards, returns and New Year's resolutions are sales you plan in December.
- Answering everything by hand at midnight: write your answers once and let them go out on their own.
Frequently asked questions
When should I start preparing for Christmas on Instagram?
Now. In Meta and Ipsos's 18-country study, 73% of people start shopping for gifts before November (Meta, 2026), and in the US, shopping activity peaks between late November and early December (Deloitte, 2026). Ideally, have your gift guide and your replies ready before Black Friday.
Do gift cards really sell?
Yes. In the US they're the most-requested gift, wanted by 50% of people (NRF, 2025), and 43% of shoppers planned to buy at least one last season (NRF, 2025). For a service business, a gift card is the easiest way to keep selling after the shipping cutoff.
What's the last day to ship before Christmas?
It depends on your carrier. For 2026, USPS recommends shipping by December 17 with Ground Advantage, December 18 with Priority Mail and December 19 with Priority Mail Express within the contiguous US (USPS); to Mexico and Latin America, by December 9 (USPS). Check UPS and FedEx for their own dates.
Can I send my gift guide by message to all my followers?
No. Automatic replies can only write to someone after they commented or messaged you, and sending the same message to people who didn't ask for it goes against Meta's rules. Ask people to comment a word and reply to each one instantly.
What can I sell if shipping won't make it in time?
Whatever doesn't depend on shipping: gift cards for your products or services, in-store pickup, digital products, classes or appointments for January. Announce it starting December 16.
Does this work for service businesses?
Yes. A salon, a photo studio or an English teacher can sell their service as a gift and fill their December calendar with the same automations: whoever comments BOOK gets your booking page and picks their day.
December is won in November: once your gift guide, your dates and your replies are ready, the season takes care of itself. If you're building your Instagram from scratch, start with the complete guide to Instagram for business.
