How to use ChatGPT for Instagram: 30 prompts that work (and how to get it to post for you)

30 prompts to copy: ideas, captions, Reel scripts, carousels, your bio and replies. Plus how to connect ChatGPT so it does it in your Instagram.

A Brazilian florist in her late twenties, with box braids in a high bun and a terracotta linen jumpsuit, smiles at her phone on the sunny street outside her flower shop, next to buckets of sunflowers and roses.

If you already ask ChatGPT for captions or Reel ideas, you know the drill: it gives you something generic, you fix it, copy it, open Instagram, paste it and build the post by hand. It works, but it's tiring, and the text often sounds like any account except yours.

This guide gives you 30 prompts to copy, sorted by task, the way to ask so things come out right the first time, and how to connect ChatGPT to your Instagram so it doesn't just write it: it gets it done in your account. It's worth learning: more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT every week, according to OpenAI.

What ChatGPT is good for on Instagram

  • Content ideas for your niche, without repeating the same thing.
  • Captions with a hook, a body and a clear call to action.
  • Reel scripts that grab people in the first 3 seconds.
  • Carousels: the text for each slide, in order.
  • Your bio: short, clear and with a reason to tap your link.
  • Replies to DMs and comments, in your voice.

And with SocialMaker connected, it also does it in your account: it designs the carousel, schedules it, creates your auto-replies and builds your link in bio. We show you how below.

Animation with 4 tasks: caption, Reel, carousel and reply. Each one shows the prompt, ChatGPT's answer line by line and the difference: on its own, you copy and paste it; with SocialMaker, it gets done in your account.

From prompt to post: what ChatGPT gives you on its own and what gets done with SocialMaker. Tap a task to see it slowly.

Before the prompts: give it context once

The most common mistake is asking for "a caption" without saying anything about your business. ChatGPT doesn't know who you sell to or how you talk, so it gives you text that could belong to anyone. Tell it once at the start and ask it to remember (ChatGPT has memory, and you can also put this in its personalization settings):

  • Prompt for ChatGPTContext
I'm a [what you do] in [your city]. I sell [your product or service] to [your ideal customer]. My tone is [friendly, funny, professional]. Write in simple English, short sentences, no fancy words. Remember this for everything I ask you about Instagram.

From then on, every prompt below comes out in your voice. Replace what's in brackets with your own details.

1. Content ideas that don't repeat

The hard part isn't posting once, it's having something to post every week. Ask for ideas with a goal, not "Instagram ideas" in general.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTIdeas
Give me 15 post ideas for my account: 5 that teach something, 5 that show behind the scenes and 5 that sell without looking like an ad. One line per idea.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTCalendar
Build a 30-day Instagram calendar: what I post each day (Reel, carousel or photo), with the topic and goal of each one. In a table.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTQuestions
What are the 10 questions someone would most likely ask me before buying? Turn them into 10 short Reel ideas.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTSeasonal
It's [month]. Give me 8 content ideas to make the most of this month's dates for my business, without it feeling forced.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTRepurpose
Here's my best-performing post: [paste the text]. Give me 5 new ways to say the same thing in other formats.

2. Captions that sell

A good caption has three parts: a first line that stops the scroll, a body that gives value and a specific call to action. Ask for it in those parts.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTCaption
Write the caption for this post: [describe the photo or Reel]. A first line that stops people scrolling, 3 or 4 lines of value and a call to action: "comment PRICE".
  • Prompt for ChatGPTHooks
Give me 10 different first lines for this caption, each with an angle: a question, a stat, a common mistake, a promise and a short story.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTShorten
This caption is too long: [paste the text]. Cut it in half without losing what matters, with the call to action at the end.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTSales
Write a caption to sell [product] without sounding like an ad: the problem it solves, proof that it works and how to buy it.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTHashtags
Give me 5 hashtags for this post: 2 for my niche, 2 for my city and 1 for my brand. No giant hashtags that don't help.
A French barber in his early thirties of Algerian descent, with curly black hair and a short beard, a mustard cardigan and a white t-shirt, smiles while typing on his laptop, sitting on a stool in front of a sage green wall.
With your business context, ChatGPT writes in your voice, not like any account.

3. Reel scripts

With a Reel, everything happens in the first 3 seconds. Ask for the script with the hook first and with what's on screen, not just what's said.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTReel
Write a 30-second Reel script about [topic]. Split it into: hook (3 seconds), 3 points and a close with a call to action. Next to it, what's on screen.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTHook
Give me 10 three-second hooks for a Reel about [topic]. They should work said straight to camera.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTOn-screen text
Here's my script: [paste it]. Give me the short text to put on screen at each moment, 6 words max per shot.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTTrend
This audio or format is trending: [describe it]. Adapt it to my business with 3 ideas that don't feel forced.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTSeries
Plan a series of 5 connected Reels about [topic], one per day, each with its own hook and an ending that invites people to watch the next one.

4. Carousels

Carousels get saved and shared, and that's why they sell. Ask for the text slide by slide, with a cover that promises something specific.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTCarousel
Write a 7-slide carousel about [topic]. Slide 1: a cover that promises something specific. Slides 2 to 6: one point per slide, 25 words max. Slide 7: call to action.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTMistakes
Make a "5 mistakes you make when [your customer's action]" carousel, with the mistake and how to fix it on each slide.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTBefore and after
Write a before-and-after carousel about a client: the problem they had, what we did and the result, in 6 slides.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTGuide
Turn this text into an easy-to-read 8-slide carousel: [paste the text].
  • Prompt for ChatGPTCover
Give me 8 cover titles for a carousel about [topic]. Short, with a number or a promise, that make people want to swipe.

5. Your Instagram bio

Your bio has 150 characters and three seconds to convince. It should say what you do, who it's for and why to tap your link.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTBio
Write 5 versions of my Instagram bio, 150 characters max: what I do, who for, a trust signal and why to tap my link.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTName
Suggest 5 ways to write my profile name so it shows up when someone searches [what you do] in [your city].
  • Prompt for ChatGPTLink
Give me 5 short calls to action to put right above the link in my bio.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTHighlights
Which 6 story highlights should my profile have? Give me the name of each, one or two words.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTReview
This is my current bio: [paste it]. Tell me what's missing for someone new to understand in 3 seconds what I do, and improve it.

6. Replies to DMs and comments

Replying fast sells, but typing the same thing 40 times a day doesn't. Use ChatGPT to have your replies ready and, better yet, to leave them replying on their own.

  • Prompt for ChatGPTPrice
Write 3 versions of the reply to "price?" for my business: short, warm, with the price or the link and a question to keep the conversation going.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTObjection
A customer tells me "it's expensive". Give me 3 friendly replies that explain the value without sounding pushy.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTNegative comment
Someone left this comment: [paste it]. Write a calm, professional public reply, and another one to send them by DM.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTWelcome
Write the first message someone gets when they DM me for the first time: a greeting, what they can ask me and a link to my catalog.
  • Prompt for ChatGPTFAQ
Write the answers to my 8 most frequent questions: [paste them]. Short, with just the right emojis and in my tone.

How to ask so it comes out right the first time

  • Give it context: your business, your customer and your tone (the prompt above). It's what changes the result the most.
  • Ask for options: "give me 5" and pick one, instead of fixing a single answer.
  • Tell it the format: length, parts, table or slides. If you don't, it decides.
  • Paste an example of yours that worked, so it copies your style.
  • Check before posting: you add prices, dates and facts. ChatGPT can make up a fact with total confidence.

Get ChatGPT to do it in your Instagram (not just write it)

Everything above, ChatGPT writes on its own. The missing step is getting it done in your account, and that's what connecting SocialMaker does. With the connector, ChatGPT designs your carousels in your Studio, schedules or publishes them, creates your Instagram and Facebook auto-replies and builds your link in bio. It asks you to confirm before every change.

With SocialMaker connected, type @SocialMaker in the chat and ask like this:

  • Prompt for ChatGPTAutomation
@SocialMaker when someone comments PRICE on my latest Reel, reply publicly and DM them my price list with a button
  • Prompt for ChatGPTCarousel
@SocialMaker design the 7-slide carousel we wrote above with the photos I'm attaching and show it to me before saving it
  • Prompt for ChatGPTSchedule
@SocialMaker schedule that carousel for Thursday at 7 p.m. New York time, with the caption we wrote

The step-by-step to connect it is in how to connect ChatGPT to Instagram. We tested it with ChatGPT Plus; on some plans OpenAI still limits it to viewing. In SocialMaker you need the Pro or Max plan, which you can try free for 30 days.

Does Instagram penalize what you make with AI?

Not for writing with ChatGPT. What Meta does is add the "AI info" label to images it detects as made or edited with AI, or when you disclose it when posting (Meta). On images that were only edited, the label sits in the post's menu, not in plain view.

What Instagram does reward is original content: since April 2026 it recommends accounts that only repost other people's content less, in photos and carousels too (PetaPixel). That's why it pays to use ChatGPT for your own ideas and text, in your voice, and not to copy what someone else already posted.

Can ChatGPT post to Instagram?

Not on its own. It needs a connector like SocialMaker, which gives it access to your account with the permissions you choose. That way it can schedule or publish, and it asks you to confirm first.

Does the free version of ChatGPT work?

For writing, yes: every prompt in this guide works on the free plan. To have it act in your account you need to connect it, and that depends on your ChatGPT plan.

Can ChatGPT create the images for my posts?

Yes, ChatGPT creates images. Check them before using them: Instagram adds the "AI info" label when it detects them. To use them in your carousel, attach them in the chat with SocialMaker connected.

How many hashtags should I use?

Since December 2025, Instagram allows up to 5 per post. Use a few specific ones: your niche, your city and your brand.

Which language should I write in?

The one your customers speak. If you sell to Spanish speakers too, ask it for both versions in the same prompt.

Is ChatGPT or Claude better for Instagram?

Both write very well and both connect to SocialMaker. If you already use one, stick with it. We have the same guide for Claude.

Does ChatGPT see my Instagram DMs?

No. Not even with SocialMaker connected: the connector doesn't read the DMs or comments you receive, and we never give it your password.

Start with the context prompt and one from each task. Once you see it saves you time, connect it to SocialMaker so it stops being text and gets done: your bookings, your replies and your posts working on their own.
