A free Instagram skill for Claude that also does the work for you
A free Claude skill that writes your Reels and captions and, with SocialMaker, builds your automations and posts for you. How to install it.
Claude “skills” went viral on Instagram: free packages that teach Claude to write Reels, captions and carousels like someone who lives on social media. The best known, instagram-agent-skill, got close to 1,700 stars on GitHub in its first month. And it states its limit in the very first line: “These skills write. You post.”
That's why we built ours. It's free, open source and works in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. It writes your scripts, hooks and captions, and when you connect SocialMaker it also gets the work done in your account: the “comment GUIDE and I'll send it” automation, your link in bio, your carousel, your catalog, your booking page and even scheduling or publishing your posts once you say yes.
What is a Claude skill?
A skill is a folder of instructions, examples and small tools that Claude reads only when it needs them. It isn't another app: you upload it once and, when you ask for something about Instagram, Claude uses it on its own. It works on every Claude plan, the free one included, with code execution turned on (Claude help).
The difference from a good prompt is that the skill already contains the craft: how to build a hook that holds attention, how many hashtags to use, what shows before “… more” and which phrases give away an AI-written text. You just say what you need.
The viral skill: great at writing, and that's where it stops
instagram-agent-skill ships 13 skills in English: Reel scripts with 26 hook formulas, captions with a checker, a profile audit, a weekly plan and a “humanizer” that strips the AI tone from your drafts. It's well made and free. But, as its author says, it connects to nothing: it gives you the text and then you copy, paste, set up the automation in another tool and publish by hand.
Animation: the same request with two skills. The one that only writes gets as far as the text, and then it's your turn to copy, paste and set things up. SocialMaker's, with the connector, also creates the automation in your account, off until you say yes, and schedules the Reel after showing you the summary.

And it's written for people who sell in each language, not translated word for word. In English it writes like a creator, not a brochure. In Portuguese it knows that in Brazil the price has to show in the post, that a paid collaboration needs #publi and that giveaways need a permit. In French it picks between «tu» and «vous», shows prices with tax included and respects the spaces before punctuation.
How to install the skill in Claude, step by step
Download the file
Get instagram-socialmaker.zip. Don't unzip it: Claude uploads it as is.
Turn on code execution
In Claude, go to Settings → Capabilities and turn on Code execution and file creation.
Upload the skill
Go to Customize → Skills, tap +, choose Upload a skill and pick the ZIP. It stays private to your account.
Try it
Open a new chat and ask for something about Instagram, for example: “Write a 30-second Reel script about the 3 mistakes my clients make”.
Using Claude Code on your computer? Install it as a plugin with two commands: /plugin marketplace add androskent-cell/instagram-claude-skill and /plugin install instagram-socialmaker@socialmaker. All the code is on GitHub: you can read every file before installing it.
Connect SocialMaker so it does the work for you
Without connecting anything, the skill writes. With the SocialMaker connector, Claude sees your tools and starts building: it creates, changes and, if you allow it, publishes inside your account.
Connect your Instagram to SocialMaker
Create your account, go to Automations and tap Connect my Instagram. It uses Instagram's official window: we never ask for your password.
Add the connector in Claude
In Customize → Connectors tap + Add → Add custom connector, type SocialMaker and the address https://socialmaker.ai/mcp.
Choose the permissions
When you connect, you choose what Claude can do in each area. To let it publish, set Schedule and publish to “View and edit”: it starts on None on purpose.
Turn it on in the chat
Tap + → Connectors, turn SocialMaker on and ask for what you need.

What the skill won't do
- It doesn't log into your Instagram or ask for your password. Everything goes through SocialMaker, which connects officially (we're a Meta Tech Provider), and you can disconnect it anytime.
- It doesn't turn on or publish anything without your yes. Before acting it shows you the automation, the design or the post summary: account, day, time and caption.
- It doesn't message people who didn't write to you first, or follow accounts or like posts for you: that's what gets an Instagram account restricted.
- It doesn't buy followers or promise reach. It helps you write better and reply faster; your content brings the results.
Is the skill free?
Yes. It's free and open source (MIT license): you can use it, change it and share it. To have Claude do the work inside your account you need the SocialMaker connector, which comes with the Pro and Max plans.
Does it work in Spanish?
Yes, and in English, Portuguese and French too. Claude answers in the language you write in, with examples made for each market instead of translated word for word.
Do I need SocialMaker to use it?
Not for writing: you get scripts, captions, carousels and the weekly plan without connecting anything. You need SocialMaker for Claude to create the automation, your link in bio, your catalog or your booking page, and to schedule or publish.
Does it work on Claude's free plan?
Yes. Skills work on every Claude plan with code execution turned on, and on the free plan you can add one custom connector, like SocialMaker's.
Does Claude publish without asking me?
No. To publish it needs the Schedule and publish permission, which starts off, and before each post it shows you the account, day, time, caption and content, and waits for your yes.
Is it safe to install?
Yes. It's a folder of text and two small tools you can read on GitHub before installing it. It doesn't store passwords or connect to anything you don't connect.
Does it work in Claude Code?
Yes. It installs as a plugin and brings the SocialMaker connector: the first time, you sign in to your account in the browser and choose the permissions.
